Koorie Culture Map is an interactive map experience produced by SharingStories in partnership with Koorie Communities and youth from local primary schools. The Koorie Culture Map is a collaboration between Koorie Communities, Koorie Heritage Trust and SharingStories Foundation. The map is a collection of creation story animations and videos of culturally significant sites originally from the SharingStories multi-touch book collection.
The map welcomes you to explore cultural customs, watch animations of creation stories, hear language and visit special sites of Koorie communities to gain an understanding of the diverse Koorie cultures of Victoria. The unique interactive map experience houses collective work from a handful of Koorie communities and shares ancient knowledge and stories with the wider community.
Community leaders proudly and continuously work with the following generations in the preservation and revival of language, stories and cultural customs. This cultural and artistic expression is a collective attempt to share the responsibility in the caretaking of Koorie culture, language and country.
We would like to acknowledge the Bangerang, Jaara and Wamba Wamba Communities who have shared their work through the interactive map. Through consultation with Koorie communities, further community content will be added to the map experience in the future.
