Thirringgenji doo Joowijgarneny: The Owlet Nightjar and The Bowerbird animated film

In 2022, SharingStories Foundation partnered with Purnululu Aboriginal Independent Community School in the remote community of Woorreranginy (Frog Hollow), in Western Australia on the creative interpretation of an important Ngarranggarnim (Dreaming) story. Thirringgenji doo Joowijgarneny is a Gija story from Jarlaloon in Gija Country.

Shared by Senior Gija Custodian, Patrick Mung Mung, Thirringgenji doo Joowijgarneny: The Owlet Nightjar and The Bowerbird is the story of two birds when they were both men in the Dreamtime. The Owlet Nightjar was an important senior lawman, responsible for making spearheads. The story teaches us about ecosystems, habitats, and co-existence.

The story of Thirringgenji doo Joowijgarneny: The Owlet Nightjar and The Bowerbird is shared here as an animated film, performed by students at Purnululu Aboriginal Independent Community School. The story is also available as a multi-touch book in Gija and English.
