Teachers, are you looking for valuable resources featuring relevant Australian, Indigenous and environmental content?
Yulu’s Coal and multiple other Indigenous stories can be further explored by teachers and students through use of our Sharing Our Stories Teachers Resources 2. The resource is a follow on from our Sharing Our Stories Series 1 Resource which won the 2009 Australian Awards for Excellence in Educational Publishing and Best Primary Teaching & Learning Package.
Incorporating Yulu’s Coal and other Sharing Our Stories books supports Australian and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) perspectives across the curriculum, offering children in Australian schools insight which supports a deeper understanding and greater respect for indigenous people and their cultural heritage.
Yulu’s Coal can be integrated into the curriculum in a variety of ways with a primary focus on:
- English and language studies
- Studies of society, history and environment
- Values education
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies.
The resource includes a synopsis of the story, maps and information about the community, as well as wide range of guided activities for each big book, additional activities in blackline master format, story book and audio CD guides, learning outcomes, and an extended interview with the author, SharingStories Foundation Director, Liz Thompson.
Visit Pearson Australia to purchase the book and resource or contact SharingStories Foundation info@sharingstories.com.au for more information.
